Front page lead article on 5 June, 1999 ‘Oil Bonanza’, by Russell Eldridge, announced the signing of an exclusive deal between The Australian Essential Oil Company and the Swiss multi-national company Ciba.

The long-term research and development agreement was signed with Ciba Specialty Chemicals Inc Consumer Care Division, in Basel, Switzerland and, potentially, could absorb more than half Australia’s multi-million dollar tea tree promotion. Australia produces about 400 tonnes of tea tree oil annually, worth about $16 million.

In the same edition of The Northern Star, the Editorial article was devoted to the same announcement.
